Carnival
Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago
The Carnival is a time "to free up" as people put it. It is full of colour, creativity, music and life. There are many events that take place in Trinidad starting from early January every year.
The "Old Mas" is gradually fading out although many say it is still the best because what we see in this modern day Carnival is a lot of nudity.
The music is either pan, soca or calypso, there are several competitions that lead up to the two day event (Carnival Monday and Tuesday) such as the Panorama, Mardi Gras, Calypso Monarch (senior and Junior), King and Queen ...
There are lots of fetes (parties) where the latest music is played by various musicians all over the country.
Carnival in Trinidad has a wonderful history as it is combination of several historical events that have occurred.
The influence from the French, Spanish and English and the mix with African, Indian and Chinese shows itself today in the food, dress, music, language of this twin island.
